There’s always work to do at Auchindrain, especially when it is summer and our kaleyards need to be kept in order. At Auchindrain, gardening invariably means archaeological finds. Last week, whilst turning the kaleyard in front of Eddie’s House, alongside the usual ceramic fragments, we also found this toy lead horse and rider and an accompanying foot soldier. We’ve asked ‘Young’ Eddie MacCallum and he doesn’t recognise them, so perhaps they belonged to his Dad or uncles instead. We have set up a temporary display at our visitor centre with objects found in the Township, including these wee toys. Come and have a look!
